Beware of Greed

How would you best define Greed? Maybe the best way to define Greed is the word used to define other words. For instance(I found this online): Greed appears in the definitions of these words: Avarice, Avaricious, Avidiously, Avidity, Bone, Bribe-devouring, Carnival, Clay, Cram, Devour, Devoured, Devouring, Edacious, Edacity, Engorge, Engorged, Engorgement, Gain, Glut, Gobbler, Gorge, Gorging, Gormand, Gormandize, Gormandizer, Gormandizing, Gripple, Gulch, Gulosity, Guttle, Guzzle, Hoggishness, Ingurgitate, Ingurgitation, Insatiable, Insatiableness, Insatiably, Insatiately, Lay, Lickerish, Lurch, Mercenary, Openmouthed, Outbid, Rummage, Shark, Sheaf, Slop, Snap, Storied, Swig, Swill, That, Voracious, Voraciously, Voraciousness, Voracity . I am sure you don’t recognize all the words but you get the point about greed. Greed’s definition is - An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, especially with respect to material wealth.
Jesus said, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.” We need to do an attitude check. Are any of the words above resonate in your being. Jesus told us both to “beware” and “guard”. We must be proactive to combat every form of greed. We need to ask Jesus for wisdom and discernment since there are so many forms of greed. This is why it is good to have a brother watch your back because you may not be able to distinguish all forms of greed. We need to help and encourage each other. Greed can encapsulate you so quickly that you may be buried half way in quicksand before you realize you are in trouble. So ‘beware and be on guard against Greed.
